Stopped for lunch with my wife. Nice small local place. We each got the three taco combo. I had the shredded beef, spicy chicken and pork. All three were very good, but the pork was the best. Rice was plain, not an issue for me though really. Refried beans tasted home made and was tasty. Wife had chicken, pork and fish. Same results, except the fish. Very fishy tasting, needed some salt or citrus/lime. Not bad prices either

Sorry folks, this was a real disappointment. The food was mediocre at best. All of their tables looked like they hadn't been cleaned in the past week and my feet stuck to their floor with every step I took inside the place. I couldn't get out of there quick enough!

My mother and I went here fore the first time. She ordered the two chimies, and I had an enchilada, tamales, and taco. We both ordered off the combo items. We also got tres leches because I am determined to find the perfect tree leches for myself. I liked my enchilada, I was able to choose the meat, the sauce was delicious and the enchilada was the right consistency for me. Which was hot, soaked and kind of soggy. I really don't like tamales, and I didn't favor them much here either. They were harder and thicker than I've experienced, but then again. I don't eat them too much and did not choose that for myself. The taco was DELICIOUS. I believe that they are probably known for their tacos and burritos. So if you desire that, this could be your place. The refried beans and rice were alright. For my mother's dish, the two chimies. I liked the consistency of the tortilla. It was chewy, and gooey. The meat was the same as my taco, shredded beef; which was a good choice. The sauce was pretty much the same as the enchilada, and like stated before, it was good. The tres leches was okay. I prefer mine to be soaked and really mushy, and soggy. This was like a cake that was wet partially, and had icing and a little decorative flower. It also had a fruit filling between the first layer and the second. Overall, this cost about $21 dollars. And we came around 11. It took a while, because their were only three people working and it was lunch rush. So we did have to wait a little. But I think it's the overall price that made this a three star. We would probably be returning members if this was a little bit cheaper, and the service was a bit better.

Very very good food. The combos are delicious and a great deal. I couldnt stop eating even though I was full :-) Heads up though, the sign on the building says Tacos & Burritos instead of Casa Lupita.

Love the food here but really more of a 'take out' place. Very slow service so if you are in a rush you had better try it some other time.

Full of flavor and 'charm.' Love the fajita burrito and the fish tacos. But they're often out of something (like corn tortillas or tomatoes!), and the soda fountain has been out of order for a while. In spite of the issues, we eat here regularly because the food is good and the price is right.

Happy to introduce a new friend to this place for lunch recently. Early for a Saturday lunch, 11:30 am, but we'd each been up since o'dawn hundred hour and were famished. I ordered a combination plate with 2 spicy chicken-filled enchiladas, salsa verde, and black beans and rice. Ooohhh it was tasty, and comforting on that cool, breezy day. Very satisfying. The chips and salsa basket shared between the two of us rounded out my meal; in fact, it rounded out my entire pleasant experience here. I love coming to eat at this place! I think it would be FAB if they served *real* margaritas (fresh squeezed lime juice, a decent enough tequila, and triple sec to keep things simple).

My favorite spot to eat that's close to work. Food feels authentic, it's delicious, cheap, and their tacos!...actually probably one of my favorite in Minnesota...specifically because they have hard shell...the crunch textures with Mexican food gives me a hard shell in my trousers :) Yeah the actual shell is a little smaller, but they are $1 on Tuesdays...you will be full for 5 bucks. I always do spicy chicken, or spicy pork..than load up on veggies and the hottest sauce...I think I have callused my esophagus, so I'm in expert mode...Eat them right away, otherwise the meat juices make the shell soggy...Go!

Poor communication, bland taste and small portions. Just my opinion obviously.

Simple but outstanding Mexican food at modest prices. My family has enjoyed the burritos and other items for years. I especially love the veggie fajita burrito. My young adult daughter adores their burrito with marinated chicken. Their guacamole is outstanding; unfortunately, it is hit or miss as to whether they have any available. Prices very reasonable. This is a classic whole-in-the-wall set up, with only a few tables; but that is perfect for a family run restaurant that takes great pride in their food and doesn't worry about things that are less important. Highly recommended for a great lunch or take out.

I had no idea what we were walking into here. I thought it was a sit down place, not an order at the counter place. And, it's odd how they were working the counter between taking orders, making food, calling out orders, and taking money it seemed very unorganized. I almost picked up someone's food because they ordered the same thing as me. The food itself was meh. My chicken enchiladas weren't bad and hubs had the smothered burrito which he also thought was ok. It has it's own parking lot but there's also abandoned gas pumps there and people apparently think it's ok to park in those spots as well. We'll probably go back and give it another chance but we definitely wont' be regulars.

Was in WBL, always up for trying new Mexican, but it just didn't cut it for me. I hate this set up for Mexican, as it is with the exception of Morelos. My cheese enchilada wasn't very sizable, and the last part of it was hardened crust. Mild salsa looked like tomato juice, thin and pretty flavorless. Taco, not shredded lettuce, but something else, and the ground beef had an off taste. Looked forward to the guacamole but they were out. I go to the back and see all these great reviews on D'Castellano's, which was an upscale restaurant in WB township. Turns out it's some of the same owners. It closed in '07. If you're seeking out Mexican in WBL, this ain't it, find a Chipotle, anything but here. If they want to go back to a real restaurant, I'm in.

VERY Good Mexican food. Tastes very authentic. Descent prices. The smothered burrito will bring you back. The only downfall is the location and the atmosphere. Grab it to go on your way home and you will be very happy with your decision.

Casa Lupita is some of the best Mexican food I've had outside of southern California. Its a little difficult to find, its in a strip mall next to an abandoned gas station. We originally came for taco Tuesdays and Thursdays when tacos are just $1 *then* i discovered the burritos and haven't looked back since. Spicy chicken and creamy chipotle....drool...

Sorry, but this place has experienced a major decline. It seems as if much of the original family is gone and the food is hit and miss. Plus it's kind of dirty and it looks like a lot of the meat is spending too much time in the steam table. Prices are cheap but you're getting what you pay for. Used to be a good place and it's hard to find decent ethnic choices in the northern suburbs but I'm not going back.

I've been coming to Casa Lupita since the opened. It was always good, cheap, authentic Mexican. But in the last 5 or 6 years, this place has really taken a dive. The interior is pretty dirty. From the walls to the tables. I usually get carne asada tacos or burritos. They are very good but the servers roll their eyes and say its gonna be a while, like they dont want to make it. They serve chips with their meals but usually dont give them to you unless you remind them. Last time they served us several Jarritos as beverages but didnt open the bottles. When we went back for a bottle opener, they ignored us for a while. Decent food, but consistantly crappy service and consistantly dirty enviorment. The food is only a slight step above the dirty roach coach in the Kmart parking lot in Douglas, AZ.

This place has really gone down hill, I used to love the food. Last time I went everything tasted stale... the taco shell, the chips and even the rice. The food sitting out just seemed like it had been there awhile. Not to mention they are totally skimping on the portions! I remember them heaping on the meat, beans and rice. I just got a tiny serving of rice and beans with my tacos and a very small amount of meat. Sadly, I doubt I'll be going back unless I hear they make some changes. What a bummer, this place used to be super tasty!

Hands down the best authentic place to go for Mexican food in the St. Paul/White Bear Lake area. Its not a sit down restaurant, more so a take out joint where the menu is written on three large chalkboards which boast temping enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, etc. You give your order to the person behind the counter and they prepare your tacos, etc. in front of you. They have the general variety most Mexican restaurants have (hot, medium, spicy; beef, chicken, fish) and you get to pick and choose how you want your tacos made. Their menu is limited but everyone I have taken has enjoyed it and has gone again. I strongly suggest their Enchiladas Mole, which is a little piece of heaven in the mouth and is the reason I frequented this place weekly when I in the states. Try it with black beans and spicy chicken and feel yourself melt under the heat and all the goodness of spicy chocolate sauce and cheese. Their prices are fair for an a la carte menu and they offer Mexican sodas (as well as a generic pop machine with cola, diet cola, etc) and flan for dessert. The flan is delicious and sells out quickly so if you see it on the menu make sure to give it a shot while its available. They have about ten tables to sit down and enjoy your food and in the summer they have three tables for outdoor seating. It's a family run business (which makes it that much better) and sometime is limited on help, so during lunch and dinner times there generally is a line, but trust me, its worth the wait!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
